Booking Policy

Booking & payment

A booking is made upon confirmation in writing with a booking reference & receipt of deposit.

Full payment is due 30 days prior to arrival. 50 % deposit is due 31 days or more prior to arrival. In the event of non-payment of a deposit or balance due, Hout Bay Backpackers reserves the right to cancel any bookings without notice or liability to the client.

Please note payment is the client’s responsibility.


Having confirmed your booking, you have concluded a contract with us and we are holding your accommodation exclusively for you. Because the room is kept for you, it is unavailable for others to book. Cancellations pose a significant challenge for our operations as we turn away other potential guests during the time your room was reserved for you. Because of this, kindly be understanding of our cancellation policy which helps to balance the potential loss of revenue whilst ensuring the sustainability of our services for all guests. If in doubt when booking, we recommend travel insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances that may arise.

Cancellations will attract the following fees:

  • 30 days prior to arrival (and no shows) – 100% of the total booking amount
  • 31 – 90 days prior to arrival – 50% of the total booking amount
  • 91 days or more prior to arrival – 25% of the booking amount


Children & Extra Bed

  • All children are welcome
  • Children under 2 years are free
  • Children between 2-12 years pay half price


Check In

  • Check in: 2pm – 6pm
  • A late check-in fee of R200 is due thereafter.


Check Out

  • Check out: 7am -10am
  • A late check-out fee of R200 per extra hour is due thereafter


Guest Identification

Guests must present valid identification (ID and / or passport) during check-in for security purposes.

Catering & Meals

Hout Bay Backpackers provides shared self-catering facilities, and for those looking to explore dining options, numerous restaurants and coffee shops are conveniently located nearby. Feel free to inquire about some excellent dining choices. Our Lodge also has a serene sundowner deck, offering stunning ocean views that stretch across the bay, providing a relaxing and picturesque experience.


The Guest agrees to cover the cost of replacement of any items, equipment or materials that they damage or lose. They will be informed of this cost and agree that Hout Bay Backpackers may debit this amount to their account or card.


We are committed to providing a clean and healthy environment for all our guests. To maintain a smoke-free and enjoyable atmosphere, please do not smoke in any of the Lodge buildings, including guest rooms, common areas and dining areas, using tobacco products, electronic cigarettes and vaping devices


You warrant that you have familiarized yourself with all risks associated with staying at Hout Bay Backpackers and accept all liability for your stay. By booking with Hout Bay Backpackers, you agree to abide by the conditions of entry and code of conduct attached herewith. You agree to read these fully and to sign and send to our reservation’s office prior to your arrival.

All bookings are at your own risk and are subject to force majeure. Where Hout Bay Backpackers is unable to fulfill the booking as a result of unforeseen circumstances beyond its control (including an Act of God, Act of Government, or other Authorities, wars, hostilities, civil disturbances, strikes, riots, epidemics, guarantees, delay in construction or completion of new facilities or renovations), then Hout Bay Backpackers shall not be liable for any loss or damage and no refunds will be due.


Your personal information is essential for the booking process and will not be shared with third parties. Hout Bay Backpackers may send information, including newsletters, to guests and subscribers, with the option to unsubscribe anytime.
